Shaka unified scattered tribes into the powerful Zulu nation through military innovations. He legitimized conquests through ancestral religious traditions and spiritual authority. The 1818 Battle of Gqokli Hill demonstrated his tactical brilliance against rivals. The resulting Mfecane wars displaced millions across southern Africa.
