14. The Banco Espírito Santo Robbery (2008, Portugal)
In August 2008, two Brazilian nationals, Wellington Nazaré and Nilson Souza, attempted a robbery at the Banco Espírito Santo branch in Campolide, Lisbon. They took six hostages, including the bank manager and deputy manager. After several hours of negotiation, the Portuguese Special Operations Group intervened, resulting in Souza’s death and Nazaré’s serious injury. The hostages were unharmed.
