In July 1987, Valerio Viccei, an Italian criminal with a history of armed robberies, orchestrated a daring heist at London’s Knightsbridge Safe Deposit Centre. Disguised as a customer, Viccei subdued the manager and security guards, allowing his accomplices to access and loot numerous safe deposit boxes. The stolen assets were estimated to be worth £60 million (approximately $98 million at the 1987 exchange rate). A bloody fingerprint left at the scene led to Viccei’s identification. He fled to Latin America but was apprehended upon returning to England to retrieve his Ferrari Testarossa. Viccei was sentenced to 22 years in prison but was killed in a gunfight with police during a day release in 2000. (en.wikipedia.org)
