Often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” the Amber Room was a dazzling masterpiece originally gifted to Peter the Great by the King of Prussia in 1716. Meticulously crafted from amber panels, gold leaf, and mirrors, this spectacular chamber adorned Russia’s Catherine Palace near Saint Petersburg. During World War II, as Nazi forces advanced, the room vanished without a trace in 1941, presumably looted by German troops. Despite extensive searches and numerous theories—including speculation it lies hidden in abandoned mines or sank aboard a sunken ship—its fate remains an enduring mystery, symbolizing the devastating cultural losses of war.
