2. Ark of the Covenant

One of history’s most elusive and revered objects, the Ark of the Covenant is described in biblical texts as a sacred gold-covered chest containing the stone tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments. Carried by the Israelites during their wanderings, it symbolized divine presence and immense power. Following the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem in 587 BC, the Ark disappeared, fueling centuries of speculation regarding its fate. Theories about its whereabouts abound, from claims it rests hidden beneath Jerusalem’s Temple Mount to assertions that it resides secretly in Ethiopia’s Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion. Yet, despite fervent searching, the Ark remains lost to history.
