15. Applegate Trail
The Applegate Trail offered a safer, southern alternative to the Oregon Trail, helping settlers avoid treacherous river crossings and steep mountain passes. This route was especially popular with families and wagon trains seeking less hazardous journeys westward. By opening new pathways into southern Oregon, the Applegate Trail spurred settlement and development in the region.
