6. The Landing Technique Sully Used
Successfully landing a commercial plane on water is extraordinarily challenging and rarely attempted. Captain Sully executed the maneuver known as “ditching,” carefully controlling the plane’s descent angle and airspeed to ensure minimal impact and maximum buoyancy upon contact with the water. He skillfully kept the aircraft’s nose slightly elevated, enabling the tail to strike first and absorb much of the force.
