13. Bosnia and Herzegovina
Emerging from the devastation of the 1990s conflict, Bosnia and Herzegovina embarked on a journey of reconstruction and reconciliation. International aid played a pivotal role, with the World Bank coordinating a $5.1 billion reconstruction program to rebuild infrastructure and services (nato.int). Sarajevo, once heavily damaged, has undergone significant restoration, hosting international events like the Sarajevo Film Festival and considering bids for future Olympic Games. Despite challenges, the nation’s resilience is evident in its ongoing recovery efforts.
