4. The Zodiac Killer
The Zodiac Killer struck fear into Northern California during the late 1960s and early 1970s, sending taunting, cryptic letters and ciphers to newspapers and police. Despite one of the most intense manhunts in American history, authorities were never able to confirm the killer’s identity. Many believe the Zodiac ultimately carried his true name and motives to the grave, leaving behind a legacy of speculation, coded messages, and enduring pop culture intrigue. The case remains officially unsolved by the FBI.
