3. The Gabriel Prosser Rebellion (1800)

In 1800, Gabriel Prosser, an enslaved blacksmith, organized a large-scale uprising in Richmond, Virginia. His carefully planned rebellion aimed to seize control of the city and demand freedom for all enslaved people. Although torrential rains and informants foiled the plan, and leaders were executed, Gabriel’s vision resonated deeply. The failed revolt led to even harsher restrictions but also fueled growing anti-slavery sentiment.
