11. The Meermin Mutiny (1766)

In 1766, enslaved Malagasy people aboard the Dutch ship Meermin launched a dramatic mutiny off the American coast. Their bid for freedom saw them overpowering much of the crew and nearly taking control of the vessel. Although ultimately unsuccessful, the Meermin Mutiny stands alongside other maritime revolts like the Amistad and Creole as evidence of the relentless pursuit of liberty.
