From the time of her birth, nearly everyone in New York knew Julia. Born Julia Gardiner on one of the largest private islands in the United States, Gardiner Island, her father, David Gardiner, was a young politician aiming for a seat as a New York Senator. 

During her childhood, Julia proved to be different from how people expected her to act. Because of her family’s high status, she got away with more than most girls her age. Of course, this only made her bolder and more robust.
