Steven Spielberg was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 18, 1946. His parents were Orthodox Jews, and his grandparents had emigrated from Ukraine to America. His family did not have to flee the Holocaust, but the fact that he grew up in the post-World War II world, immediately after the end of the Holocaust, would profoundly affect him, notably when he produced Schindler’s List.
