Founded in 1970, Pripyat was a vibrant city created to house workers and families of the nearby Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Life in Pripyat was modern and bustling—until the catastrophic 1986 meltdown changed everything. The entire population was evacuated within hours, leaving behind schools, apartments, and playgrounds frozen in time. Today, Pripyat’s abandoned buildings and decaying Ferris wheel create an unsettling snapshot of a thriving city abruptly silenced by disaster.
