A theme you’ll notice as you read on is LaVey’s eye for stagemanship and good publicity. In 1967, he saw an opportunity for good PR by having his daughter Zeena Galatea LaVey, then 3 years old, ‘baptised’ into the Church. The event was widely advertised, and a clip broadcast on Bay Area television on May 23, 1967, drew widespread condemnation. The video shows LaVey in a very silly costume complete with devil horns ringing a bell ‘in nomine Satanas’, while a bored-looking Zeena sits next to a naked woman.
