11. Rapid Commercial Airline Expansion
The post-war expansion of airlines like Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) and Trans World Airlines (TWA) led to unprecedented interconnectedness. Pan Am, founded in 1927, was the principal and largest international air carrier and unofficial flag carrier of the United States for much of the 20th century. TWA, established in 1930, became the second-largest carrier in the U.S. after World War II. America’s aviation business model set industry standards for safety, regulation, and scheduling that shaped global commercial aviation. (mcgill.ca)
