The Bavarian Illuminati and Freemasons were distinct organizations with different histories and purposes. Founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt, the Illuminati aimed to promote Enlightenment ideals and challenge religious and political oppression. In contrast, Freemasonry, with roots tracing back to medieval stonemasons’ guilds, is a fraternal organization focused on moral and ethical development.
