The Isle of Man was a strategic Viking outpost in the Irish Sea, invaded in the 9th century. Norse settlers influenced local law, culture, and art, traces of which remain in the island’s Tynwald parliament—the world’s oldest continuous parliamentary body (via manxnationalheritage).
