10. The Tlatelolco Massacre (Mexico City, 1968)
On October 2, 1968, Mexican troops opened fire on protesters in Mexico City’s Tlatelolco district, resulting in the deaths of hundreds. The government initially blamed the demonstrators and suppressed evidence of the massacre for decades.
