During World War II, the Soviet Union’s 588th Night Bomber Regiment, known as the “Night Witches,” was an all-female unit that conducted nighttime bombing raids against German forces. Utilizing outdated Polikarpov Po-2 biplanes, they flew over 23,000 missions, dropping bombs on enemy targets and disrupting supply lines.
