8. The Hittite Empire
The powerful Hittite Empire once dominated Anatolia and rivaled Egypt in influence. Around 1200 BCE, however, it vanished abruptly from history. Historians believe a deadly mix of foreign invasions, famine, and internal strife during the larger Bronze Age collapse triggered the empire’s sudden fall.
