6. Pterosaurs Were Dinosaurs
Pterosaurs were a group of flying reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic era, but they were not classified as dinosaurs. While both pterosaurs and dinosaurs coexisted and shared the same era, they belong to different branches of the reptilian family tree. Pterosaurs are part of the archosaur clade, which also includes dinosaurs and crocodilians, but they represent a distinct lineage. Unlike dinosaurs, pterosaurs had wings formed by a membrane of skin and muscle stretching from an elongated fourth finger down to their hind limbs.
