4. Little John: Fact or Folklore?
The legendary Little John, Robin Hood’s trusted lieutenant, is said to have been a man of remarkable stature. According to local lore, he is buried in St. Michael’s Churchyard in Hathersage, Derbyshire. An inscription on his grave reads:
In 1784, an excavation of the grave uncovered a thigh bone measuring approximately 30 inches (76 cm) in length, suggesting a man of considerable height. Additionally, the grave is situated under an old yew tree, adding to the site’s historical and cultural significance.
