From master ironworkers to skilled builders and painters, Black craftspeople left an indelible mark on the city’s architecture and visual culture. Their expertise combined African heritage with Creole aesthetics, creating a style uniquely New Orleans. As noted by the Preservation Resource Center, these artisans’ works remain a living testament to creativity, resilience, and cultural pride.
