6. Cabrini-Green, Chicago
Once envisioned as a beacon of hope, Cabrini-Green evolved into one of America’s most notorious public housing projects. Early residents saw promise in its modern apartments, but poor management, isolation, and dwindling resources soon took their toll. Crime and gang violence became rampant, casting a long shadow over the community. By the early 2000s, Cabrini-Green was largely demolished, a symbol of both broken dreams and failed urban policy.
