12. Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot
In 1605, Guy Fawkes, a Catholic conspirator, attempted to assassinate King James I and the English Parliament by placing 36 barrels of gunpowder beneath the House of Lords. The plot was foiled when authorities discovered Fawkes guarding the gunpowder.
