10. The Battle of Plattsburgh (1814)
The Battle of Plattsburgh combined American land and naval forces in a crucial stand on Lake Champlain. Outnumbered U.S. forces, under Commodore Thomas Macdonough and General Alexander Macomb, repelled a major British invasion from Canada. The defeat forced British troops to retreat and ended their northern ambitions. This victory came just as peace talks were underway, strengthening America’s position and directly shaping the favorable terms of the Treaty of Ghent.
