10. Alfred Wetzler and Rudolf Vrba’s Auschwitz Escape (1944)
In a remarkable act of courage, Alfred Wetzler and Rudolf Vrba became two of the few prisoners to escape the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944. Hiding in a woodpile for days before slipping past the guards, they eventually reached freedom and delivered a detailed report—known as the Auschwitz Protocols—to the Allies. Their testimony provided vital evidence of the atrocities being committed, helping to save countless lives by prompting action and increasing awareness.
