8. Quarry Worker

Working in quarries during the 1800s was fraught with danger. Quarry workers faced the constant threat of rockfalls as they extracted stone from unstable cliffs and walls. Accidents were common, with falling debris causing serious injuries or fatalities. Additionally, the inhalation of stone dust posed significant health risks, leading to respiratory issues like silicosis. The lack of protective equipment and safety protocols made this occupation particularly perilous.
