1. The Sentinelese of North Sentinel Island
Hidden deep within the Andaman archipelago, the Sentinelese remain one of the world’s most mysterious peoples. Fiercely independent, they have consistently rebuffed all outside contact, defending their territory with bows and arrows. Their hunter-gatherer lifestyle persists almost unchanged, untouched by agriculture or modern technology. In recognition of their wish for isolation, Indian authorities enforce strict bans on approaching North Sentinel Island, protecting both the Sentinelese and outsiders from unwanted contact.
