15. Thule’s Indigenous Inhabitants Evicted for a U.S. Base
In 1953, Danish and U.S. authorities forcibly relocated the Inughuit from Thule to build a strategic American air base. Families were given little warning and resettled in harsher conditions, an injustice still under legal dispute. The relocation disrupted traditional hunting grounds and led to significant cultural and economic hardships for the Inughuit community.
