11. Desert Nomads and Tatooine’s Sand People
The Tusken Raiders, also known as Sand People, are inspired by real-world desert nomadic cultures, particularly the Bedouin and Berber peoples. George Lucas, the creator of *Star Wars*, drew from the Bedouin, an Arab tribe from the desert regions of North Africa, when designing the Tuskens. Similarly, the Tusken Raiders are depicted wearing heavy cloth robes and covering their heads with strips of cloth to secure a breath mask and eye protection. This design choice reflects the adaptation of these cultures to their arid surroundings and their emphasis on survival in the desert.
