10. The Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon
In the early 19th century, large portions of the Parthenon’s sculptures were removed by Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, under the authority of the Ottoman Empire. These sculptures, now known as the Elgin Marbles, were transported to Britain and are currently housed in the British Museum.
