The jobs available to Pyramid workers
The phyles all had specific tasks they were in charge on. Tomb inscriptions provide insight into what each division actually did. Their leaders are described on their tombs as “Director of Craftsmen,” “Decorator of Tombs,” “official in charge of one side of the pyramid,” and “overseer of stone movers.”
There was an Inspector of Royal Tombs, a Building Director, and women serving as Priestess of Hathor. They’re a “Supervisor of Masons,” Head of Stonecutters,” and “Director of works of the king.” And let’s not forget the support jobs necessary to keep the workers on the Pyramid project alive and thriving, such as the “supervisor of granaries,” and “director of the bakery of workers.”
