12. The Rescue Attempts
After reaching South Georgia Island, Shackleton’s primary focus shifted to rescuing the 22 men stranded on Elephant Island. His initial attempt involved the British whaler Southern Sky, but an impenetrable barrier of pack ice forced retreat. Undeterred, Shackleton sought assistance from the Chilean government, leading to the deployment of the tug Yelcho.
