7. Promoting Decolonization
In 1946, the United Nations initiated efforts to address colonialism by establishing the Special Committee on Information Transmitted under Article 73 e of the Charter. This committee aimed to examine information from administering powers regarding non-self-governing territories. The UN’s commitment to decolonization was further solidified in 1960 with the adoption of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, affirming the right to self-determination.
