Antonio López de Santa Anna’s military career is a study in contradictions. Despite his charisma and political acumen, his leadership during the Mexican-American War was fraught with failure. Perhaps his most notorious defeat was at the Battle of San Jacinto, where his overconfidence and lack of tactical foresight led to a swift Texan victory. Santa Anna underestimated the determination of his opponents and failed to maintain discipline within his ranks.
