1. The Bald Eagle’s Decline
The decline of the bald eagle was a complex tragedy driven by several human-induced factors. Intense hunting for feathers and trophies severely reduced their numbers. Coupled with rampant habitat destruction, these birds found fewer places to nest and hunt. However, the most insidious threat came from the pesticide DDT. Accumulating through the food chain, DDT caused the thinning of eggshells, leading to widespread reproductive failure. The combination of these factors pushed the bald eagle to the brink, marking a somber period in the history of American wildlife.
