Vikings brings to life the epic saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and his descendants, but it freely blurs the boundaries between myth and historical fact. The series condenses decades of Viking raids, exploration, and political intrigue into a much shorter period, and invents dramatic relationships and clashes for narrative excitement. Characters such as Lagertha and Bjorn Ironside draw inspiration from sparse historical records, with much of their development based on legend rather than documented history.
