5. Abilene, Kansas
Abilene staked its claim as the first of the wild cattle towns, its railhead drawing droves of cowboys and eager entrepreneurs. The town’s saloons and dance halls buzzed with life and risk. It was here that Marshal Wild Bill Hickok famously brought order to the bustling, often unruly streets, helping shape Abilene’s legendary reputation in the Wild West.
