Octavian Agustus rose to power because his great-uncle Julius Caesar was assassinated. Most of the time, inheriting power doesn’t work out very well. However, the Roman people truly loved Augustus. He continued to rule until he died in AD 14. This period of time has been called “Pax Romana“, and it was the most peaceful period of the empire’s history.

There have been several busts and statues made of him, in honor of how he helped the republic flourish. An artist named Salva Ruano created a series of sculptures of Roman Emperors, titled “Cesares de Roma”. This is just one of the life-like sculptures showing what he may have looked like when he was a young man.
