Roman governor Pliny wrote to Emperor Trajan around 112 CE describing Christian worship practices in detail. He mentions Christians gathering before daylight to sing hymns “to Christ as if to a god.” His letter documents Christians refusing to curse Christ or worship Roman gods even under threat of execution.
