1. The Earth is Flat

For centuries, many cultures firmly believed the Earth was a flat disk floating in space or water. Ancient civilizations like the Babylonians and Egyptians built worldviews around a flat Earth, with the idea persisting well into the Middle Ages. Only later did Greek philosophers—most notably Eratosthenes—present convincing evidence for a spherical Earth. Yet, the flat Earth myth has proved surprisingly resilient, with modern “Flat Earth Societies” still attracting followers despite overwhelming scientific evidence to the contrary.
