8. Autonomy Movements
Greenlanders have long advocated for greater political autonomy, leading to significant milestones in their pursuit of self-determination. In 1979, a referendum resulted in over 70% support for home rule, granting Greenland a degree of self-governance within the Kingdom of Denmark. This was followed by the 2008 Self-Government Act, which expanded Greenland’s authority over domestic affairs, including control over mineral resources.
