14. Outlawing Dueling
Although dueling is often linked to Western lore, territories like New Mexico made it explicitly illegal in hopes of reducing deadly showdowns. Those caught engaging in duels could face jail time and hefty penalties. Despite these laws, some duels continued in secret, showing the tension between legend and law.
