8. Chiang Kai-shek
In December 1936, Chinese leader Chiang Kai-shek was detained by his own generals, Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng, during the Xi’an Incident. They sought to force him into forming a united front with the Chinese Communist Party against Japanese aggression.
