4. The Māori (New Zealand)
The Māori, indigenous to New Zealand, developed a rich warrior culture centered around the haka, a traditional dance performed to prepare for battle and to intimidate enemies (teara.govt.nz). Their weaponry included the taiaha (fighting staff), tewhatewha (axe-like staff), and the mere pounamu (greenstone club). While sharing Polynesian roots, the Māori’s martial traditions were uniquely adapted to their environment and societal needs.
