In the early 15th century, Zheng He led seven ambitious naval expeditions across the Indian Ocean, reaching as far as Africa. As a Chinese admiral under the Ming dynasty, he commanded enormous fleets—some of the largest wooden ships ever built—demonstrating China’s maritime power to the world. Zheng He’s voyages promoted trade, diplomatic ties, and cultural exchange between China and numerous distant lands.
